Utterly Ridiculous Madness

This has seriously gotten out of control. What started out as a way to ban websites that contained illegal material could now somehow find it's way to affecting games? Honestly, you are talking about a ban aid solution, don't just sweep these things under the carpet and assume they will go away, just do what needs to be done, and produce an 18+ rating for games. It's seriously not hard, would take no effort and would stop so much goddamn aggravation on a topic I am sick and tired of hearing about.

To be perfectly honest, the current law doesn't effect a lot of games, but it's so archaic that it boarders on the utterly ridiculous regardless, a few years ago when the rating system was updated, why wasn't an 18+ rating added for games?

The biggest issue with this new so called "legislation" is the filtering of websites that sell games, where the game either has a different rating or is not rated in Australia. So I won't be able to buy perfectly legal games, that I'm entitled to own from a website like Play Asia? The government cannot seriously be considering this, when did we become the new China, or Germany for that matter?

All this due to the fact that these people try to make their current positions relevant and to look as though they are needed. We don't need web filtering, no one "accidentally" finds themselves on a website with illegal content, it's not like you are on Google or reading the news then all of a sudden you find yourself looking at child porn, it doesn't happen. I know taking down the host of such material isn't possible, but Jesus Christ, filtering everything that you don't agree with is just utter madness.

I could go on about this topic forever, but overall it's such a tired topic. Though the new revelations in the article I linked about banning web sites that sell games, that just goes far far beyond the reach of what the Government should be allowed to filter. Yes by all means filter some seedy European child porn site, that's it. Otherwise where do you draw the line? Honestly where is it going to stop, this kind of filtering get out of hand far too quickly, and it's all becoming a little too 1984 for my tastes.
