For some reason I ignored Red Faction Guerrilla initially, I just thought it was another generic FPS and just didn't pay much attention, yeah I was kinda wrong. Red Faction lets you do one thing I've wanted so many other action games to do, let you destroy and blow up every goddamn thing there is. This game is based around destruction, half the missions are blowing up enemy bases or something similar plain and simple. Though saying that destroying buildings gives you scrap metal which lets you buy and upgrade weapons, so going nuts and blow the shit out of everything in sight always has a bonus.
It's pretty much like any open world game, you have optional missions you can pick up placed over the map, and also mission which progress the storyline and help you liberate the current sector you are in, which is the main goal. The side missions seem a bit repetitive after a while, but it's not a huge issue. At one point after running around a base blowing up buildings, the enemy decided to call in back up that included a tank, which I promptly stole and went on a massive rampage blowing everything in sight to rubble. I mean, how can that not be fun.
The only issue I have found so far is that at times there seems to be an endless spawn of enemies if you are trying to destroy a base, or something similar and for some reason they are a goddamn good shot and will hit you for a nice chunk of health. It's not so noticeable in the beginning but later you are pretty much screwed trying to get out alive if you find yourself in the middle of a large firefight. But the penalty for dying is tiny and you just spawn back at a safehouse, so really it's only an issue in missions and even those you can do over.
At least the game makes it easy to get around with plenty of vehicles, even map markers and path line showing you where to go, so none of this bullshit where you get lost trying to find your way to a mission spot.
It also includes some fairly decent multiplayer modes which include all the mayhem from the main game, they've some interesting elemets but it's pretty much your usual mutiplayer affair.
